A few years ago, I joined a new meet-up group while I was working on the sale of lots in Liberty Village ~ a "Friend of Liberty Village," I wanted to learn how a Cohousing community works as my thoughts wandered to my future years ahead where I might move to a home to age in place.
When I first learned about Liberty Village while the community was being built, I was a single mom, raising 2 boys in Frederick. I seriously considered moving to Liberty Village for the support a cohousing community like this could give me. But buying and moving to Liberty Village never transpired for me, and now my boys are grown. As I thumb through brochures about 55+ communities, my mind continues to wander back to Cohousing and intentional communities where the residents are all ages from 5 to 95! There seems to be a happy chord that sings inside me when you get to laugh with kids while walking outdoors, share community meals or discuss topics with the adults at the Coffee Klutch.
Liberty Village has much to offer if you want to be involved in your neighborhood on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. The self-run HOA allows for group consensus for the mission, vision and future of the community. Like most Cohousing communities, there is a strong emphasis on energy saving and environmental conservation. Many homes have solar powered energy and all currently have geothermal heating/cooling systems. A car charging station was added in the parking area and there is room for more stations when electric cars become more usable in the near future. There are many walking paths, community gardens, a chicken club, fruit trees and other community activities. The kids recently cooked dinner for the whole community and goats are supposed to be arriving this spring. Perhaps cheese making is ahead for the residents!
The only home currently available is a duplex located on the main circle of the community. It features a possible 1st floor Master Bedroom (currently used as a dining room) with a 1st floor bath with a walk-in shower. Could the house be used for a multiple generational home? I believe it could. The basement is finished, there is a wonderful guest suite and 3 additional bedrooms. And the fully updated kitchen provides lots of storage as well as a clean and classic look. Compared to other Cohousing communities around the country, this home is reasonably price at $329,900. Believe me, I have looked at prices of homes at Cohousing and Intentional Communities across the country. $329,900 is a reasonable price to get into a Cohousing community!

Then come take a personal tour of the home and community, maybe stop in for a community meal or just walk the 23 acres with one of the residents. You can check out all the community activities on the event calendar.
